Obama Sweeps to Victory as U.S first Black President.
Pulse Caribbean Fashion Week 2009
Barack Obama beats Sen. McCane to become the nation's first black president Tuesday night in an electoral college landslide that over- came racial barriers as old as America itself. "Change has come," he declared to a huge cheering supporters.

The son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas, the Democratic senator from Illinois sealed his historic triumph by defeating Republican Sen. John McCain in a string of wins in hard-fought battleground states— such as Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Iowa and more to become the 44th president of the United States of America.

Shortly after 2:15 am Eastern Time, count showed Obama with 349 electoral votes, well over the 270 needed for victory and McCain had 147 after winning states that comprised the normal Republican base, including Texas and most of the South.
The Phillies’ work was done at 9:58 p.m. Wednesday night, when Lidge, the reliever whose flawed past did not dissuade general manager Pat Gillick from trading for him last winter, dropped to his knees in front of the mound after striking out Tampa Bay pinch hitter Eric Hinske. The Phillies became the first team to go 7-0 at home in the postseason.

Despite the delay, fans will always remember how this one wrapped up. And for the first time in a long while, kids saw a World Series champion crowned before bedtime.

The Phillies and City of Philadelphia will have championship parade on Friday, October 31, 2008 beginning at noon.  The floats will start from 20th and Market Streets and travel south down Broad Street ending at Citizens Bank Park. The city is encouraging the public to take public transportation due to the large crowds and limited parking.
Philadelphia Phillies Wins 2008 World Series.

The Philadelphia Phillies, for only the second time in their 126-year history, are World Series champions, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3. They completed the task Wednesday night that had been inter- rupted for almost 48 hours earlier by driving winds, howling rain and a besieged baseball commissioner.

Pat Burrell, one of only two players who have been with the Phillies organization for a decade or more (shortstop Jimmy Rollins is the other), much of that time spent enduring boos from fans legendary for their crankiness, had only one hit in the Series. But it couldn’t have been more crucial. Burrell’s seventh-inning double off Rays reliever J.P. Howell, followed one out later by Pedro Feliz’s single off submariner Chad Bradford, led to the run that decided the first suspended game in World Series history.

Philadelphia has not had a champion since the NBA’s 76ers defeated the Lakers in 1983, and the populace was poised Monday night to celebrate the Phillies’ first Series title since 1980 until the elements intervened. Play was halted at 10:40 p.m. ET with the score tied 2-2 after 5½ innings, commissioner Bud Selig belatedly, in the view of many, deciding conditions were unplayable

In his first speech as victor, to well over 100,000 people in Grant Park in Chicago, Obama catalogued the challenges ahead. "The greatest of a lifetime," he said, "two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century."

McCain called his former rival to concede defeat — and the end of his own 10-year quest for the White House. "The American people have spoken, and spoken clearly," McCain told his disappointed supporters in Arizona. President Bush also call Barack Obama and added his congratulations from the White House.

Barack Obama and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, will take their oaths of office as president and vice president on Jan. 20, 2009. McCain remains in the United States Senate.

The best of fashion culminated with the eccentric collaboration of style and couture being brought together under one roof. That is one way that could describe this year’s Caribbean fashion Week. And the designers again have outdone themselves with arrangement of colors, fabric and even including some bit of a nature’s.
The finals for the Penn Relays began on Saturday morning. Jamaicans filled Franklin Field wearing green and gold, with flags in hand, rejuvenating that Olympic feeling. The athletes' performance, however, was under par in comparison and the fans left the stadium a little disappointed, especially in Asafa Powell who caused his team to place dead last in the Men's USA versus the world 4x100 meter relay.
The women, in search of redemption from dropping the batton in Beijing, managed to place second to USA. The high schools boys were in 7 of the 8 lanes for the 4x100m and placed first, second and third (Calabar, Wolmers and Munro College respectively).

St. Jago and Calabar would also take gold and silver in the 4 x 400. In the Women's medley relay Jamaica took the gold setting a new meet record of 3:34.56. The 4x400m USA vs the world was the last event of the day for Jamaicans; the men placed fourth and the women placed second. Despite doing considerably well, Asafa's name took many lashings which could be heard among the crowd departing the stadium.

The show featured such local designers as Posh, Camesha Powell, Sandra Kennedy, Uzuri (Karl Williams and Mark McDermoth), Barry Moncrieffe, Catch A Fire (Cedella Marley), Mutamba (Amber Cohen and Mutabaruka), Earl “Biggy” Turner, The Mushroom (Brigid and Jason Lawson), Bridget Brown and Bill Edwards and some international designers hailing from as far as India and including some of the usual destinations like Atlanta The UK and Poland.

The performances were also of much admiration as artistes such as D’angel; in her one of a kind 3-D design by Dexter Pottinger and Cherine Anderson did put on quite an applausable worthy show. Kelly Rowland had the crowd absolutely wooed as expected. She had the crowd bumping to Hit singles such as  “Like This” dilemma” and “Come back” though she didn’t reminisce us with some of her past hits as 1/3 of the trio Destiny’s child she did give the audience a hell of a performance that left us wanting more. Much less was to be said about Eve’s performance but non- the less we’d like to
To say any more about the event would be taking away from the fact that if you weren’t there for even one night you missed out by far. But don’t worry you can be sure that CFW 2010 will be in keeping with the same standard and character that has become the forte of the premiere Caribbean fashion event that is Caribbean Fashion Week.
