“TRINI” The Soca/Reggae/R&B songstress
procuring ways to Artistic fulfilment
Finatic Records’ sizzling songstress, Trini (Caryl Jacobs) is an exciting Soca/Reggae/R&B bombshell. She is set to explode with a scorching array of new releases. Trini’s song “Searching” is featured on the new Sly and Robbie various artists album “Rhythm Doubles”. The album has been nominated in the 2007 Grammy Awards. Her new single is another Sly and Robbie production, ‘Keep It Up’ on the ‘Bam Bam’ rhythm. It was simultaneously released with her brand new Soca album ‘Passion’ on the Finatic Records label. All three releases have been well received in Trinidad, Jamaica, the U.S. and the U.K. This is further testimony to the versatility of Trini as a multi-talented artist who not only writes many of her songs but comfortably and effectively transcends genres with ease and conviction. These new releases follow her 2005 debut album release “Like No Other”, issued by Empire/Universal in the U.S. and Universal Records in Japan, and were preceded by a CD single with two tracks (taken from the album) : ‘Turn Me On’ and ‘Sexy Ways’; plus a separate release on vinyl, ‘Wine Behind The Truck’ which is a carnival theme song.
Beauty, brains, talent and style are some of the qualities critics are describing for this rising star. Trini has recently recorded collaborations with a number of different artists such as Kevin Lyttle on the track ‘Sexy Ways’ which is featured on Kevin’s hit album. She is also featured in combination with Machel Montano on ‘Lovers Best Friend’ from his new album. Other duets include ‘You Think You Know Me’ with Red Rat, ‘Slow This Party Down’ with Tanto Metro, ‘The Wedding Song’ with Glen Washington and ‘Ride’ with Mad Cobra.
Some of the producers Trini has been working with include Red Spider, Ian Wiltshire, Sly & Robbie, Track Junkie and Ian Johnson. The fresh and solid Soca, Reggae and R&B sounds compare favourably to leading artists in these genres, thanks to her smooth delivery and memorable lyrics.
In addition to her hectic studio engagements, Trini has been working hard on stage. She has done the carnival circuit from Trinidad to Caribbana in Canada to the New York Carnivals, and is currently touring Trinida wit Roy Cape and the Calypso All Star Band. Trini have performed at the New York Tamika awards and at Florida’s ReggaeSoca awards. She is a favoured repeat performer of the National Anthem at Miami Heat basketball games. In between the carnival shows she has worked in Europe and in Surinam.
The inspiration and motivation of this young woman can be traced to an early involvement in the family business of Calypso. Born in Trinidad to a musical family, Trini grew up singing with her family’s band. Her own indomitable style evolved from a natural mixture of all the elements she listened to while growing up, such as R&B, Hip-hop, Reggae and Calypso.
